About the product

An alcohol-resistant, non-fluorinated foam concentrate for hydrocarbon and polar-solvent applications.

Brand
ANSUL
Model
NFF-331

Product features

  1. The manufacturer identifies NFF-331 as 3%×3% AR-SFFF; fuel and hardware combinations are checked in the product documentation.
  2. UL 162 hardware and sprinkler combinations are limited to the configurations listed by the manufacturer.
  3. The manufacturer lists GreenScreen Certified Silver and ready biodegradability under OECD 301F; these properties refer to the NFF-331 model.

Design and installation guide

ANSUL NFF-331: 3×3 AR-SFFF for multiple-liquid hazards

ANSUL NFF-331 is an alcohol-resistant synthetic fluorine-free concentrate assessed at 3% on hydrocarbons and compatible polar solvents. A shared nominal concentration can support selection for multiple-fuel sites, while each fuel and discharge arrangement still requires verification.

Özkartay assesses the model through flow behaviour, water supply, proportioning and documented discharge combinations. Transition planning separately reviews existing piping and legacy-agent residues.

01

How does the foam form and provide protection?

Concentrate chemistry, proportioning with water and application method together determine foam behaviour.

  1. Blanket and vapour control

Correctly proportioned solution forms a blanket that helps limit vapour release. Delivered flow and use scenarios determine blanket continuity through design. Water content contributes cooling.

  2. Protective layer on polar solvents

Alcohol-resistant properties limit interaction between the blanket and compatible polar fuel. Fuel type and application follow performance evidence. AR properties do not guarantee identical results for every chemical blend.

  3. Pseudoplastic flow

Model viscosity changes with flow conditions. Suction, pumps and proportioner range are assessed for accurate mixing. Maintaining concentration at low temperatures or flows matters alongside nominal percentage.

Selection, hardware and product condition

Combustible material, product documentation and installed hardware are assessed together for appropriate selection.

Fuel and concentration

3×3 and fuel scope
Nominal concentration is 3% on hydrocarbons and compatible polar solvents. The sheet addresses fresh, sea, hard and brackish water. Design checks that the actual fuel and water/hardware conditions fall within model scope.
Reading UL and EN scope
The sheet identifies UL 162 and EN 1568:2018 Parts 1, 3 and 4. UL scope follows the relevant proportioning and discharge combinations. Matching sprinkler K-factors alone do not establish approval of another model.

Proportioning and discharge equipment

Fixed and mobile arrangements
Suitable sprinklers, nozzles, chambers or monitors are matched to model evidence. Surface application and required density are established. General equipment compatibility does not justify acceptance of every installed device without verification.
Piping and materials in transition
Materials contacting neat concentrate are checked. Legacy fluorinated-agent systems require cleaning and any necessary hardware changes. Actual proportioning and return-to-service conditions are verified with the new product.

Storage, documentation and environment

Storage and sampling
Manufacturer storage/operating range is 2–49 °C. Original packaging or suitable system tanks are used, avoiding freezing, dilution and contamination. Inspection and representative sampling are planned. Mixing with other concentrate types or manufacturers is prohibited.
Documented environmental properties
The manufacturer identifies no intentionally added PFAS, ready biodegradability under OECD 301F and GreenScreen Silver. These are model-specific properties. Used foam, legacy residues and contaminated water require controlled management.

Applications and selection approach

The actual fuel, site conditions and validated scope of the selected model govern the following applications.

Chemical production and storage

Application need
Hydrocarbon and polar solvents may coexist.
Selection approach
The shared 3% setting is matched to validated fuel and hardware scope.

Foam-water sprinklers

Application need
Sprinkler model and layout depend on design.
Selection approach
Agent–sprinkler–proportioner combinations and hydraulic distribution are selected together.

Fuel transfer and mobile response

Application need
Surface access and equipment flow range vary.
Selection approach
Suitable branchpipes/monitors, water conditions and actual concentration are checked.
