At the heart of passive fire protection: E120-certified fire doors and project-specific solutions
Fire safety in buildings and industrial facilities combines active detection and suppression systems with passive protection that limits fire spread. Fire doors separate fire compartments and help protect emergency escape routes.
Özkartay fire door solutions are designed for the architectural and operational needs of the facility. E120 denotes 120 minutes of fire integrity under the relevant test conditions. Project-specific dimensions, leaves, hardware and installation options are selected within the certification scope of the chosen doorset.
01
What matters when selecting and manufacturing a fire door?
Design, manufacturing and installation are considered together so the door can deliver its intended protection. The opening requirements are assessed alongside the verified performance of the complete doorset.
E120 classification and certificate scope
Fire integrity, thermal insulation and smoke control are separate performance characteristics. The required class is established for the project, and the doorset, dimensions, hardware and installation conditions are checked against the relevant certificate scope.
Manufacturing to the project and opening dimensions
The wall construction, clear opening and intended use are surveyed. Colour options are RAL 9002 cream, RAL 3001 red and RAL 7016 anthracite. Frame and finish options are selected for the location, and custom dimensions are checked against the chosen doorset certification before production.
Leaf arrangement and opening direction
Occupant flow and the architectural layout determine the need for single or double leaves and the opening direction. The fire resistance of a double-leaf solution is assessed using the certificate for that doorset.
Hardware and accessory scope
Panic bars, closers, seals and locking mechanisms are defined during design and quotation. Compatibility with the complete doorset is checked, together with separate evidence for any required smoke-control performance.
Coordinated manufacturing and installation
Installation is planned around the wall construction, fixing details and manufacturer installation conditions. Suitable anchors and fire-resistant filling materials are selected, and the frame, leaves and closing arrangement are checked together at handover.

Fire door solutions for different facilities
Traffic, occupant flow and environmental conditions vary by facility. The following hardware and finish options are considered against the project requirements and certification scope of the relevant doorset.
Industrial facilities and factories
- Operating conditions
- Frequent material movement, impact exposure and demanding operating conditions.
- Project-specific solution
- The frame and leaves are selected for the operating load. Powder-coated or other protective finishes are specified after assessing corrosion and chemical exposure, within the doorset certificate scope.
Logistics facilities and warehouses
- Operating conditions
- Pallet-truck and forklift traffic, wide corridors and large openings.
- Project-specific solution
- Double leaves and, where required, a door coordinator are considered for wider openings. Correct closing order, clear opening dimensions and the doorset fire-resistance certificate are checked together.
Shopping centres, hospitals and public buildings
- Operating conditions
- High occupant traffic and the need for unobstructed emergency escape.
- Project-specific solution
- Panic bars and door closers are selected for the escape strategy. Colour and finish options are coordinated with architectural needs while retaining the certified performance of the doorset.
Data centres and technical rooms
- Operating conditions
- Controlled access, safe escape and location-specific sealing requirements.
- Project-specific solution
- Locks compatible with card or keypad access are designed to preserve escape operation and door closing. Where smoke control is required, a doorset with separately documented smoke performance and compatible seals is assessed.

Fire door configuration table
Scroll the table horizontally to view every column.
| Facility / location | Certificate scope | Leaves and dimensions | Key hardware |
|---|---|---|---|
| Escape stairs | E120 doorset within its certificate scope | Single leaf to suit the opening; separate scope check for double leaves | Panic bar and door closer |
| Production facility | E120 requirement and certification of the selected doorset | Frame suited to operating loads and project dimensions | Impact-protected handle and heavy-duty hinge options |
| Warehouse and logistics openings | The double-leaf doorset certificate scope | Wide-opening double leaves | Door coordinator; project-specified hold-open magnet released by the fire signal |
| Technical rooms / data centres | Fire-resistance class and separate smoke-control class where required | Doorset suited to the opening dimensions | Escape-compatible access locks and seals suited to the certified system |
The table compares project options. The chosen combination of dimensions, leaves and hardware is checked against the relevant doorset certificate.
Fire doors are safety barriers that help limit fire spread and protect escape routes. Accurate surveying, manufacturing within the certificate scope and coordinated installation provide a solution suited to the facility passive-protection requirements.
