Deluge sprinkler system

Deluge sprinkler system

About the system

Discharges a high volume of water simultaneously from all open heads after fire detection.

System provider
Özkartay

System scope

  1. Sprinkler heads remain open
  2. The control valve opens from the fire detection system
  3. Water discharges simultaneously from all open heads
  4. Provides high-volume water application for rapidly developing fires
  5. Considered for high-hazard industrial areas

Frequently asked questions

Are all heads open in a deluge system?

Yes. The heads remain open; when detection opens the valve, the pipework fills and water discharges from all heads.

Where is deluge used?

It is considered for high-hazard industrial, chemical and process areas with rapidly developing fire risk.

How is water release controlled?

The detection zone, control valve, manual stop and drainage arrangement are designed and tested for the project scenario.

Design and installation guide

Deluge sprinkler system: selection and application guide

A deluge arrangement uses open nozzles or discharge devices to apply water across the designed zone when the deluge valve opens. Detection and valve control are designed with the control needs of a rapidly developing hazard.

In a deluge sprinkler system, sprinkler heads remain open while the control valve is normally closed. When a separate fire detection system opens the valve, the pipework fills and water discharges simultaneously from all open heads. It is considered for rapidly developing fires and high-hazard industrial areas.

Operating arrangement and engineering

Selection considers the product function, the protected risk and operating conditions together. These steps support the site survey and quotation.

  1. Zone and valve control

Define open discharge devices and valve-opening conditions for the protection zone together. Choose electrical, hydraulic or other control within the arrangement supported by the selected system.

  2. Water demand and drainage

Calculate demand from discharge devices operating together. Assess water effects inside the facility, drainage capacity and suitability for the protected equipment.

  3. Hydraulic calculations and layout

Calculate hazard classification, storage or process data, pipe sizes and water demand at the critical point together. Pump, tank and head/nozzle selection are elements of this design.

  4. Testing and maintenance

Verify water supply, valve/alarm functions and the relevant system scenario during commissioning. Record system-specific testing and maintenance tasks in operating records.

Applications and site planning

These examples show why placement and equipment requirements can differ between facilities using the same product.

Rapidly developing industrial hazards

Site requirement
A need for simultaneous water application to a zone.
Application approach
Determine suitability of water application for the fuel/process and select detection from project data.

Protection around equipment and processes

Site requirement
Nozzle line of sight, obstructions and drainage.
Application approach
Check the protection zone, nozzle placement and process interlocks together.
